  La integración regional latinoamericana y europea en el siglo XXI: marco para la reflexión sobre su presente y futuro

  This book covers a series of investigations that promote reflections on two themes in general: the framework of regional integration in the 21st century and the present and future situations of Latin American and European integration. The topics analyzed in the first part include a wide range of nuances regarding the regional integration process, both from the perspective of your current situation and from proposals that aim to channel your future. The analysis of the characteristics and implications of free trade agreements highlights the existence of ideological positions, which hinder the academic debate on regional integration and the same integration process since that time and efforts could be better used to analyze, reflect and build viable proposals and recommendations. In the second part, we find a historical, current and prospective review of the relations between Mercosur and the European Union. Both the general framework of the first section and the specific situations of the second show the richness and variety of interpretations currently produced on regional integration. We consider the participation of academics from different fields, disciplines and different national experiences to be positive. To those of Argentina, Brazil, El Salvador, Mexico, Uruguay and Venezuela, two of the EU are added, while in the disciplines they represent we find political science, economics, history, international relations, and sociology.

  Una obra orientada a plantear la pertinencia y la convergencia de la integración en América Latina despierta reacciones encontradas, pues, para algunos, si los procesos de integración se encuentran en crisis, ¿qué objeto tiene formular reflexiones sobre su convergencia? Todavía, dirán algunos, está bien evaluar su pertinencia, etapa necesaria, pues en un contexto complejo de crisis mundial, se debe tener claro qué razones respaldan continuar en el siglo xxi con esfuerzos integracionistas. Pero es que, si la integración es pertinente, se requiere que en la situación de estancamiento y confusión en que se encuentran los distintos procesos de integración, América Latina establezca un camino, una hoja de ruta, sobre cómo relanzar y profundizar la integración, conociendo a dónde llegar mediante una agenda de trabajo que indique en el corto, mediano y largo plazo, los temas fundamentales por desarrollar.

  This book proposes elements to rethink Latin American integration, using the Common Market of the South (Mercosur) and the Pacific Alliance as case studies. The various chapters of the book explain the reasons why economic regionalism in Latin America maintains a logic of initial advances, setbacks, and stagnation without finally consolidating. In this analysis, four essential variables are considered to understand the complex integration process in the region: the economic model, institutionality, political participation, and leadership. Based on these four variables, the various chapters explain the causes of the difficulties of regional integration in Latin America and in its final chapters future scenarios are proposed. The book is the result of the collaboration of researchers from the Cooperative University of Colombia and the University of the Andes of Venezuela.
