Tendencias en la gestión de empresas sin ánimo de lucro. Caso: Cooperativas.

Pardo Martínez, Luz Patricia; Huertas de Mora, María Victoria; Malaver, Luis Eduardo; Archila Pachón, Claudia; luz.pardo@campusucc.edu.co; mariav.huertas@campusucc.edu.co; luis.malver@campusucc.edu.co; claudia.archila@campuscc.edu.co(Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Facultad de Ciencias Económicas, Administrativas y Contables, Derecho, BogotáBogotáMaestría en Gestión de las Organizaciones, 2014)

This work presents findings from three cooperatives, selected as typical, among many case studies from previous research work by its authors as well as from the present one, to identify advances in knowledge among this type of actors in the social and solidarity economy in Colombia. This work deals with categories in the economic, social and administrative spheres, from a managerial perspective that takes into account the theoretical and doctrinal influences, along with their effects on, and the contexts of, the subjects. The article addresses the question: What are the main doctrinal and theoretical trends that support current and future administrative management by cooperative actors as an economic pillar of the solidarity system in Colombia? The work goes on to look at the materialized values as well as the practices that become historical trends of the movement. The characterization contained in the law whose purpose is to provide nature with recognition along with legal standing, in addition to the materialization of doctrine in its practices, proposes its fundamental bases. The study does not present conceptually universalized or globalizing results, but rather, by applying a phenomenological method, aims from the specificity and reality of the phenomenon to induce and compare those reflections.

Socioeconomía de la solidaridad. Una teoría para dar cuenta de las experiencias sociales y económicas alternativas

Guerra, Pablo(Universidad de la República, Montevideo, UruguayExternoCiencia Inclusiva, 2014-04)

In recent years, the concepts of solidarity economy, or socio-economy of solidarity, as we have preferred to call it in this work, has become widespread in the world of alternative ideas and economic practices. This field refers to numerous economic experiences (in the diverse phases of production, distribution, consumption and accumulation) involving solidarity, based on such values as cooperation, democratic participation, fairness, and care of the environment. The proposal of this work is to understand how economy and solidarity can be worked together. We will discover the existence of solidarity economic behaviors and even of solidarity enterprises which together form part of an economic sector that is different from both: the capitalist sector and the state sector. The idea of a socio-economy of solidarity refers to the importance of understanding the interwoven economy (Polanyi) in a particular framework of social rules. Therefore, our approach distances itself and questions the misnamed homo oeconomicus, proposing a more complex and realistic look at our socio-economic motivations, and a theory more in line with a plural economy in which solidarity behaviors and enterprises (cooperatives, fair trade organizations, responsible consumption organizations, ethical finance organizations, popular economic organizations, associative networks, etc.) can be analyzed and interpreted from a scientific perspective in which such disciplines as sociology, economics, anthropology and economic history all converge.

This book is based on the idea of expressing a critical and thoughtful argument in relation to the epistemological principles that have supported progress in the economic and administrative sciences. In this sense, a divergent position is taken regarding the economic dogma represented in doctrinaire liberalism. The argument has been based on denouncing the distinction between an object and subject of knowledge as contrived, understanding, as did Baudrillard, that in the scientific exercise both agents are immersed in a radical equivalence. Methodologically, a hermeneutic exercise was carried out in which the interpretation constituted a transforming translation process, and the interpretative record became the fundamental basis for change. The work has therefore been composed of three interdependent essays, which address the concept of economic rationality, the discourse of productivity, and the implications of entropy for the economic and administrative sciences. The results of this research show the need to undertake an ontological and epistemological shift, both in analytical tools as well as the discursive justification that characterizes these disciplines of knowledge. The shift proposed in the work implies a transformation of economics as a scientific discipline, so that it will not continue to be developed as an epistemological mechanic of a reductive nature.

Los actuales desafíos del proceso de globalización

Vieira Posada, Edgar; edgar.vieirap@ucc.edu.co(Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Centro de Pensamiento Global, BogotáBogotáCentro de Pensamiento Global, 2016-05)

This book discusses the main challenges of the globalization process nowadays, concerning the adjustments to the neoliberal economic model due to the negative effects of financial crises, the development goals for the next fifteen years, the transcendental technological changes, their implications in the development of cognitive capitalism, the difficult task of facing the consequences of global warming, the implications of the prevalence of human rights over the rights of nations, and the possibilities of emerging nations in the redistribution of world power in an environment altered by the presence of fundamentalist groups. These challenges suggest the relevance of a globalizing process that, given the time elapsed, deserves changes worldwide.

This book describes the history of Nariño coffee growing from the voice of actors and managers involved in the process of appropriating the coffee chain as a value chain in the municipality of La Union (department of Nariño, Colombia). It starts from 2004, time from which the coffee grower has had an active voice and has engaged in dialogue and participatory decision scenarios motivated by the desire to give his production work a new status: entrepreneur. The strengthening processes in associations supported by entities such as Foundation Social and the formation of the first alliances are major milestones that underpin this work. The book consists of six chapters that deal with the main socio-political and economic aspects of Nariño, is current situation, lessons learned, achievements, difficulties, and areas for improvement, as well as the background that enabled the implementation of a roasting plant in La Union. This work makes an important contribution to coffee growing as a viable and sustainable job for farmers in Colombia. It is aimed at producers and managers of prioritized production chains in Nariño, research groups, entrepreneurs, departmental and municipal governments, scholars, scientists and students, and the general public interested in knowing in depth how social innovation processes are managed in the department of Nariño.

    Democracia, Estado e ideología

Duque Silva, Guillermo Andrés; coinderucc@hotmail.com(Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Facultad de Derecho, Derecho, CaliCaliCiencia Inclusiva, 2016-11)

This book aims to present some of the theoretical proposals that have positioned in Ibero-American academia as philosophical alternatives to the liberal democracy ideology. In it, we find a variety of essays where authors take a stand for or against various understandings of politics in the 21st century. It includes from texts that constitute a defense of individualism and political apathy as an ideological choice to essays supporting a new praxis founded in the radicalization of democratic participation or the performance of violently revolutionary political acts. The importance of new trends in the so-called post-political era is explained: radical democracy, neo-republicanism, liberal socialism, possessive individualism, post-Marxism, new post-structuralism (Foucauldian reading), social psychoanalysis, and political theology. Thus, the classic problems of political philosophy are updated based on an overview of the new paradigms in contemporary philosophy and political theory.

This research book aims to describe the contributions and limitations of hypnosis as an adjuvant technique in the treatment of pain, based on techniques that can be used in emergency services, hospital care, and primary care. The book gathers result of more than twenty years of research and experiences of professionals who have provided care to individuals with chronic pain problems and diseases. While the use of hypnosis is controversial because of its association with esotericism and other unscientific practices, taking the approach of health psychology and evidence-based medicine as a starting point helps to overcome the “war between schools”, since the contributions made by different theories to therapeutic practice, are taken into account. In this integration attempt, a promising future can be envisaged so that psychological resources are used daily in hypnosis techniques to enhance pain relief and human well-being.

This book collects the results of the research project “Validation of solidarity-based economic integration models/methodologies in Antioquia and Santander,” whose objectives were to analyze theoretically recognized models and reflect on the conceptual and methodological elements that should be addressed in depth to make these models guide action and aspire to a different, inclusive economy. Additionally, it presents the results of the joint efforts between the Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia and the Special Administrative Unit of Solidarity Organizations, attached to the Ministry of Labor, under Research Agreement 013 of 2016. First, the contents and implications of economic integration are addressed from solidarity, for which some elements of economic theory are presented, in contrast to the construct that comes from the theory of solidarity economy. Then, the models identified in the literature (referred to as proto-models) are characterized, noting asymmetries among them in terms of the form of their semantic, syntactic and pragmatic properties. The last part of the book describes the experiences that are part of the project, derived from its action research methodology and put into practice as social realities that have already initiated or hope to initiate integration processes, so that, in demanding the application of the models, their strengths and weaknesses become evident for future academic construction.

Marcadores de infecciones transmisibles vía transfusional

Flórez-Duque, Jenniffer; Cardona-Arias, Jaiberth Antonio(Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, Medicina, Medellín y EnvigadoMedellínMedicina, 2019)

This book aims to estimate the seroprevalence of markers of infection transmissible via transfusion and its associated factors in donors attending the blood bank of the School of Microbiology of the Universidad de Antioquia, since 2015 to 2016. Previous studies have limitations related to the fact that the population cannot be extrapolated to this research, given that they do not take into account the new infection markers that were included in 2014 for screening in blood banks; it means, they don’t make disaggregated analysis by subgroups of interest in sociodemographic and hematological terms. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted, in which the global seroprevalence of transmissible infections in the blood bank was estimated, as well as the specific prevalence of HIV, HTLV, VHB, VHC, T. pallidum, and T. cruzi. The overall seroprevalence of infections was 3.39%, which in epidemiological terms can be considered a low occurrence. Although, from transfusion medicine, it could be considered high, given that this proportion represents a high number of deferred donors and units of discarded blood, to which the implications that this figure has for the blood bank and its donor selection process could be added. This study has multiple advantages, such as working with population data, exposing the magnitude of the occurrence of infections that are not routinely included in the programs of active epidemiological surveillance in Colombia and identifying groups with the highest occurrence of infections. At the same time, it has advantages of descriptive studies such as: generating hypotheses, simultaneously studying several events and several exposure factors, allowing the investigation of long-term infections or slow development, and guiding health planning and administration actions.

For the writing of this book, fourteen recognized Latin American specialists were invited to cover nine fundamental topics. Five authors are Mexican, seven Colombian and two North American. Their contributions are the result of their academic and professional experience in the areas treated by each one of them. However, as is proper to the bibliography of the case, this first volume of the collection Pensamiento global does not cover the totality of topics that, due to its vertiginous dynamic, surpasses any editorial attempt in this regard. For this reason, this contribution of the Centro de Pensamiento Global (CEPEG) has as its main objective the didactic disclosure of one of the most complex trends of the current globalization process. Its content and language combine the purely technical with the properly informative, in order to reach the widest and most diverse audience. As it is noticed at the beginning of the book, the ‘disruption’ itself is not an economic and technological phenomenon that would have appeared with the current globalization process. It simply took an unusual dynamic that in some cases such as that of “artificial intelligence” (AI) seems to augur a human future that is certainly unpredictable. Without being able to predict the many possible futures of that post global humanity, this book collects many of these concerns and suggests valid options for reflection.

This book is a byproduct of the research project Teaching model for the ethical training of public accoun-ting students, conducted by the Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, the Universidad Augustiniana (Colombia) and the Universidad Pedagógica de Holguín (Cuba). The objective of the project was to show the necessary changes to make the ethics of accounting professionals in Colombia better and better, as well as to expose the principles and codes on which public accounting is based. The first chapter presents advances in the literature review of articles related to the subject in question. The analyzes obtained show two dimensions in the formation of the public accountant: ethical student training and university social responsibility. The second chapter identifies the level of ethical conscience and the interference of the environment in making unethical decisions by students. The third chapter tries to answer the following questions: what research is ongoing to analyze the role of accountant in the ethical domain? What is being said about their responsibility and social ethics? What do authors and universities propose on this topic? The final chapter analyzes what is meant by ‘research’ in the accoun-ting disciplines. Also, think about love in a configurational key and propose to move towards an ethical coexistence: living without expectations.

Studying human behaviour in its complexity is a constant task that de mands rigor and the responsibility of integrating its findings to the understanding of social realities. This is the purpose of this book, the product of a qualitative study, justified by the incidence of HIV/AIDS and suicide in young people, mental health events that have been addressed from the psychosocial by researchers and organizations and entities who seek to deepen the study of their risk factors, for the structuring and implementation of public policies for prevention and intervention in these cases. The book exposes, in its first part, the antecedents of the problematic and the relevance, the importance and the scopes of the study, to then expand theoretically and empirically each one of the examined categories of analysis (i. e., HIV/ AIDS, suicidal ideation, suicidal behaviours and coping). It also shows the methodological procedure used: from an open interview, the experiences of a group of young people with HIV/AIDS are analysed. With this, we identify suicidal ideations and desires that affect their quality of life, but also a set of cognitive, emotional and behavioural internal resources that contribute to the coping process, necessary to continue life with the human immunodeficiency virus, are also evidenced and described. It is concluded that these young participants, despite the impact and emotional pain generated from the diagnosis —added to the stress caused by stigmatization, rejection, discrimination and guilt— have internal resources and mechanisms that allow them to continue with their project. lifetime.

This work offers conceptual elements and reflection on the effective possibi- lity of repairing the survivors of the armed conflict, by the legal and psychosocial connotations of the term and the real scope of the Victims and Land Restitution Law. The book is based on the results and experience obtained in the research Psychological well-being, quality of life and social support of the population victim of the armed conflict in Colombia, a descriptive, cross-sectional study aimed at establishing the relationship between psychological well-being, quality of life and the perceived social support of the population victim of the armed conflict in Bello, Trujillo, Montería, Santa Marta and Barrancabermeja, and that was benefited with some measure of attention, assistance and reparation of the aforementioned law. Three instruments (whoqol-bref and mos, of perceived social support, and Ryff’s psychological well-being scale) were applied to a total of 1139 people (non-probabi- listic sampling) recognized by the State as victims and benefited with some measure of the law. The results show that there is an association between psychological well-being and the reception of the “attention” measure of the law. The quality of life and social support perceived by the participating population are associated with having received some of the care, assistance and repair measures. The last two chapters present two readings of realities that complement what was addressed in the study: the experiences in Trujillo, Valle and Montería, whose results coincide with the general findings of the study, according to a territorial and individual approach.

This book seeks to contribute to address the challenges of education with the quality demanded by the 21st century world. It is based on the understanding and approach of learning difficulties, analyzed from the endogenous and exogenous factors of vulnerable contexts who demand a social and human pedagogy. The results presented are based on qualitative research, the hermeneutic approach and the ethnographic method. They showed the reality of the object of study, from the evidence and experience of their own actors: cycle 2 students, teachers, parents, teaching directors and support staff of the Educational Institution La Despensa, (Soacha, Colombia). The content of the book answers the question: what are the factors of the context that influence the learning difficulties of the students of the institution under study, and what didactic strategies can support its transformation? The findings can be easily transferred to other educational environments with similar characteristics, common to different areas of the country and the Latin American region. In addition, the findings highlight the normative and pedagogical gaps that exist in the topic of learning difficulties, mainly in the pedagogical management by teachers, who have a peremptory challenge, projected to be trained in the subject to strengthen their educational performance and vocation at the service of the integral formation of the minors. Thus, Learning Difficulties... brings the reader closer to current educational trends that, from a human approach, address the complexity of an insecure world, which demands a reflective and critical vision of vulnerable contexts. All this, in relation to learning difficulties and the social responsibility that school, teachers, parents, the State -through the municipal authorities -and the society, in general, have to fulfill in order to train the child in the necessary competences of being, knowing, doing and living together, based on a dialogical construction of their life project that positively impacts their environment.

This book proposes elements to rethink Latin American integration, using the Common Market of the South (Mercosur) and the Pacific Alliance as case studies. The various chapters of the book explain the reasons why economic regionalism in Latin America maintains a logic of initial advances, setbacks, and stagnation without finally consolidating. In this analysis, four essential variables are considered to understand the complex integration process in the region: the economic model, institutionality, political participation, and leadership. Based on these four variables, the various chapters explain the causes of the difficulties of regional integration in Latin America and in its final chapters future scenarios are proposed. The book is the result of the collaboration of researchers from the Cooperative University of Colombia and the University of the Andes of Venezuela.
